Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR), Mumbai hereby invites applications for Walk-in Test/Interview for several temporary positions in System Administration at the Computer Facility of HBCSE.
The Computer Facility of HBCSE consists of a data centre with several servers and a LAN with about 200 clients. The servers typically run GNU/Linux OS while the clients are mostly dual-boot systems. The data centre and the clients are networked through a router and a distributed cluster of switches. System administration includes setting up and maintaining servers for web, email, spam and virus filtering, firewalls, network traffic monitoring, maintaining databases, wikis, backups etc. Applications for the following posts are sought from individuals with a passion and commitment for working in a learning environment, and an understanding of free software development and support systems. All the posts are purely temporary, for one year in the first instance and extendable by one or two more years. 1. CHIEF SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR – 1 POSITION
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech/M.C.A. with 3 years experience in system administration including at least 1 year experience on GNU/Linux based systems.
Age: Up to 40 years (relaxable up to five years for deserving candidates)
Honorarium: Rs. 35000/- p.m. + HRA 30% in lieu of institute accommodation.
Job description: The candidate is required to manage and monitor the network, the websites and provide basic support. In addition, the candidate is required to take a leading role in setting up a new computational facility including LAN server and PC cluster. This is a key assignment requiring high quality of professional skill and experience. The applicant should have sound knowledge of GNU/Linux (UNIX) system administration as well as of clients with Windows OS.
2. SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR – 1 POSITION
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech/M.C.A. with 2 years experience in system administration including at least 1 year experience on GNU/Linux based systems.

3. PROJECT FELLOW – 2 POSITIONS
Qualification: M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech/M.C.A. with some additional skills or experience relevant to the job
Age: Below 30 years (relaxable up to five years for deserving candidates).
Honorarium: Fixed honorarium of Rs. 12000/- to 16000/- p.m. depending on qualification and experience with an annual increment of Rs. 1,000/- up to maximum limit of Rs. 16,000/- depending on quality of skills and/or experience. House Rent allowance in lieu of government accommodation at the rate of 30% of the honorarium will also be paid.

4. PROJECT ASSISTANT – 1 POSITION
Qualification: B.Sc./B.C.A. or M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech/M.C.A.
Age: Below 25 years (relaxable up to five years for deserving candidates).
Honorarium:
* For Project Assistants with Master's (M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech/M.C.A.) degrees - Rs. 10,000/- during the first year,Rs. 11,000/- during the second year and Rs. 12,000/- during the third year + HRA 30% in lieu of Institute accommodation
* For Project Assistants with Bachelor's (B.Sc./B.C.A) degrees - Rs. 7,500/- during the first year,Rs. 8,500/- during the second year and Rs. 9,500/-during the third year+ HRA 30% in lieu of Institute accommodation.

Outstation candidates belonging to SC/ST are entitled for ordinary/Mail/Express second class return railway fare by shortest route only on production of railway ticket. This concession is not applicable to those SC/ST candidates who are already in Central/State Govt. service.
